The First 72 Hours
The first three days set the tone for everything that follows. Here's how to make your Frenchie's homecoming smooth, calm, and confident.
Day 1: Arrival
- Set up a safe, enclosed space — a playpen or puppy-proofed room
- Offer water immediately, then a small meal
- Keep interactions calm and brief — let your puppy decompress
- Establish a potty routine — take them outside every 1–2 hours
Day 2: Settling In
- Begin your feeding schedule — 3 meals per day at consistent times
- Introduce the crate slowly — make it a positive space with treats and toys
- Start short, gentle play sessions
- Schedule your first vet visit
Day 3: Building Routine
- Reinforce the potty and feeding schedule
- Begin gentle handling — paws, ears, mouth
- Start name recognition with positive reinforcement
- Watch for signs of stress — lethargy, refusal to eat, diarrhea
Red Flags
Contact your vet immediately if your puppy shows persistent vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or refuses to eat for more than 12 hours.
