French Bulldog Nutrition: Feeding for Structure and Longevity

By Hidden Legacy Kennels

A Frenchie's diet does more than fuel playtime — it shapes their structure, their skin, their airway, and their lifespan. We share the feeding philosophy we use in our own program, from weaning through adulthood, and the ingredients we always avoid.

Feeding for Life

A Frenchie's diet does more than fuel playtime — it shapes their structure, their skin, their airway, and their lifespan.

Our Feeding Philosophy

  • High-quality protein as the first ingredient
  • Limited fillers — no corn, wheat, or soy
  • Omega-3 fatty acids for skin and coat health
  • Appropriate kibble size for brachycephalic jaws

From Weaning to Adulthood

  • 8–12 weeks: 3–4 meals per day, puppy-formulated
  • 3–6 months: 3 meals per day
  • 6+ months: 2 meals per day
  • Adult: 2 meals per day, adult-formulated

Ingredients We Avoid

  • Artificial preservatives (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin)
  • Generic 'meat by-products'
  • Excessive grains and fillers
  • Artificial colors and flavors

The Bottom Line

What you feed your Frenchie is one of the most important decisions you'll make for their long-term health. Invest in quality food — it pays dividends in structure, coat, energy, and lifespan.
