Preparing Your Home
Before your puppy arrives, puppy-proof your space just as you would for a toddler:
- Remove small objects they could swallow
- Secure electrical cords
- Block off stairs and unsafe areas
- Set up a designated crate or bed in a quiet corner
The First Night
Your puppy's first night home is a big adjustment. Keep them calm, offer a warm blanket, and consider placing a heartbeat plush toy nearby to mimic the comfort of littermates. Expect some whining — it's completely normal.
Feeding Schedule
French Bulldog puppies do best on a consistent feeding schedule:
- 8–12 weeks: 4 small meals per day
- 3–6 months: 3 meals per day
- 6+ months: 2 meals per day
Choose a high-quality, breed-appropriate kibble and always provide fresh water.
Watch the Treats
Frenchies are prone to weight gain. Keep treats to no more than 10% of their daily caloric intake.
Health & Vet Visits
Schedule your first vet appointment within the first week. Your vet will:
- Confirm your puppy's vaccination schedule
- Begin deworming protocols
- Discuss microchipping and spay/neuter timing
Heat Sensitivity
French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed — they cannot regulate heat well. Never exercise your Frenchie in temperatures above 75°F, and always provide shade and water outdoors.
